Connecting eligible employees with their long service leave benefits is at the heart of what we do. So, when the chance arose for our Executive Leadership Team to visit Centennial Coal’s underground mines at Myuna and Mandalong, they jumped at the opportunity.
The team swapped their corporate attire for hard hats and reflective gear as they visited Myuna, a site with a workforce of approximately 250. Every year, up to 1.5 million tonnes of coal is extracted at Myuna, and the team witnessed the dedication of the workers firsthand. Darlene Perks, our CEO, praised their teamwork, noting the pride and enthusiasm they displayed during the visit.
Next, the team travelled to Mandalong to explore a longwall thermal coal mine. Unlike Myuna, Mandalong operates on a larger scale with over 500 employees and produces up to 6 million tonnes of coal annually. Mandalong plays a vital role in supplying Vales Point and Eraring Power Stations, significantly contributing to the state's electricity generation.
At Mandalong, the team had the opportunity to experience the shearer cutting coal in close proximity. Tony Windever, our Chief Operations Officer, recalls this experience as a personal highlight, describing it as both captivating and a powerful display of teamwork.
The visits provided insights into the diverse operations and dedication of our mining workforce, highlighting the value Coal LSL’s long service leave scheme provides for eligible employees.
