Coal LSL is a corporate Commonwealth entity helping workers in the black coal mining industry access the long service leave they’ve earned, and ensuring employers meet their obligations. This is our story.

Who We Are - Back in the mid-1900s, working in the black coal mining industry was tough. The Coal Mining Industry (Long Service Leave Funding) Scheme was one of the benefits introduced to support workers. It made long service leave entitlements portable, allowing eligible employees within the black coal mining industry to keep their leave when changing roles or moving between employers.

October 2024 marked 75 years of portable long service leave for workers in the black coal mining industry. They fought hard for this benefit, and it’s still the only nationwide fund of its kind in Australia.

What We Do - We’re proud of our Scheme’s rich history. Every day we work to ensure entitlements are accurate and accessible for employees in the black coal mining industry. We also provide clear information and education to help employers meet their obligations.
