Get to know Brett, our Employer Engagement Liaison

Brett Murray

At Coal LSL, our people are at the core of everything we do. Through our Staff Spotlight series, we introduce you to the dedicated people who support our stakeholders every day. It’s an opportunity to meet the faces behind the names and learn more about the passion they bring to Coal LSL.

In this edition, we’re shining the light on Brett Murray, our Employer Engagement Liaison. As part of the Education and Engagement team, Brett plays a key role in helping employers understand their obligations under the Scheme.

1. How long have you worked for Coal LSL?

I’ve been with Coal LSL for just over 7 years.

2. Can you describe your team and their responsibilities?

Our team helps employers understand their obligations under the Scheme. We provide clear, practical guidance to employers of eligible employees, covering responsibilities such as registration, reporting and payment of levies.

We’re also a key point of contact at Coal LSL. We respond to enquiries from both inside and outside the organisation about eligibility and obligations.

3. What’s coming up that you and the team are excited about?

Yes! We’re moving toward a more proactive approach to engagement and education. By working closely with employers and increasing awareness of the Scheme, we aim to provide clearer guidance upfront. This helps reduce non-compliance and supports employers to get things right from the start.

4. How can employers get in touch with you or your team?

Employers can contact us by calling the Scheme Enquiries team on 1300 852 625. They can also request a meeting via the contact form on our website.

5. What are some of your personal highlights while working at Coal LSL?

During my time at Coal LSL, some of my greatest personal highlights have been seeing 2 of my daughters get married and welcoming 3 beautiful grandchildren into our family. It’s been incredibly special to experience these milestones and share my excitement with my colleagues at Coal LSL.

6. Are there any projects or accomplishments you are particularly proud of at CLSL?

I’m especially proud of the work our team has done visiting employers and accountancy firms. These visits help us understand their challenges firsthand and provide tailored education about the Scheme. Meeting with them directly has strengthened relationships, clarified misconceptions and helped us better support their needs.

7. What was your first job?

I started my career as a Bank Clerk, working at the Rural Bank of NSW.
